Paris said its troops would begin withdrawing from Niger "this week", after tensions with the military junta in power since July. "We will begin our disengagement operation this week, in good order, in security and in coordination with the Nigerians,” the military headquarters said, a week after the French ambassador in Niamey returned home under pressure from the regime.
