Guterres' message as Rwanda celebrates 30 years of genocide

Through his special message for the genealogy of this day, Antonio Guterres reminded that "A day like this in 1994 and almost 100 days that wiped out one million Tutsis including children, women and men were killed by their fellow Rwandans. Families turned on other families, friends became enemies, and an evil spirit of deliberate and cruel violence swept over the nation ."

In the message, the Secretary General emphasized that ''We will not forget the victims of this genocide. And we will never forget the bravery and resilience of those who survived, whose courage and willingness to forgive remains a source of light and hope in the midst of this dark chapter in human history ."

Guterres said in this year's anniversary, we remind ourselves about the root of the massacre which is hatred .

He added that ''We can draw a straight line between the senseless killing of one million Tutsis along with some Hutus and other people who opposed the genocide and the decades of previous hateful statements, fueled by ethnic tensions and the long shadow of colonialism.

On this glorious day of remembrance, Guterres has asked the world and everyone, "To promise to stand together against all forms of hatred and discrimination." Let's make sure that the actions that started on April 7, 1994 are never forgotten and never repeated anywhere ."

Guterres has made the statement that genocide will not be repeated at a time when, in the past six months, the illegal regime of Israel has been carrying out genocide against the Palestinians of the Gaza Strip, where until now the brutal Zionist regime has killed more than 33,000 Palestinians. most of them are women and children.
