Israeli Newspaper Maariv Exposes Israel’s Hypocrisy: No Hezbollah Disarmament in the Ceasefire Deal

Israel’s Maariv newspaper has published what it claims are the full terms of the recent ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon, and one point is clear: there is no mention whatsoever of Hezbollah’s disarmament.

The document outlines the framework for ending hostilities along the northern border under UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
It focuses on halting military actions from both sides and restoring stability along the Blue Line.
Yet, despite Israel’s constant public demands that Hezbollah must be disarmed, the text includes no clause mandating such a step.

According to Maariv, the agreement’s main provisions are as follows:

- Mutual ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon.

- No offensive actions by Hezbollah or any other armed group against Israel.

- No Israeli attacks on targets in Lebanon, by land, air, or sea.

Lebanese Commitments and Security Arrangements

The agreement reiterates that the Lebanese Army and Internal Security Forces are the only recognized armed entities permitted to operate south of the Litani River, a standard clause drawn directly from Resolution 1701.

Lebanon will also oversee the sale, transfer, and production of weapons within its borders to prevent unauthorized rearmament, while deploying 10,000 Lebanese troops along the southern frontier with logistical support from the United States and France.

Israeli Withdrawal

Israel, for its part, is expected to gradually withdraw its troops from Lebanese territory south of the Blue Line within 60 days of the agreement’s enforcement.

Monitoring and Enforcement

A new tripartite monitoring mechanism, led by the United States with participation from France, Britain, and Germany, will oversee implementation and verify any potential violations.
Both sides must report any breaches to this mechanism and to UNIFIL, the UN peacekeeping force in southern Lebanon.

The Key Point: No Disarmament Clause

Maariv’s report makes it clear that the agreement does not include any explicit demand or obligation for Hezbollah to disarm., instead it tasks the Lebanese government with enforcing national laws and maintaining control south of the Litani, a reiteration of existing UN resolutions, not a new or expanded condition.

Both parties reaffirmed their right to self-defense under international law, an acknowledgment that directly contradicts Israel’s frequent claims that Hezbollah’s weapons are “illegal.”

Exposing Israeli Hypocrisy and Violations

For weeks, Israeli officials and media outlets have insisted that any truce with Lebanon must include Hezbollah’s disarmament.
Yet, if Maariv’s published terms are accurate, Israel signed a deal that makes no such demand.

This revelation undermines Israel’s entire narrative.
It proves that Israel itself is violating the agreement by continuing its air raids, drone overflights, and artillery strikes in southern Lebanon, actions explicitly forbidden under the very terms it agreed to.

While Tel Aviv publicly accuses Hezbollah of breaching Resolution 1701, Maariv’s own publication exposes that it is Israel that refuses to comply, maintaining an occupation of Lebanese land and carrying out near-daily violations of Lebanese sovereignty.

This contradiction highlights a familiar Israeli pattern: demanding compliance from others while ignoring its own obligations.
It continues to act above international law, breaking ceasefires, ignoring UN resolutions, and justifying aggression under the pretext of “self-defense.”

Even Israel’s own media now admits what its leaders refuse to say aloud, that Hezbollah was not disarmed, Lebanon did not surrender, and Israel continues to be the primary violator of the ceasefire it helped draft.
