Military actions of the army of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the Lachin corridor

Simultaneously with the expression of the EU's concern, the Armenian media reported on the increase in the military operations of the Azerbaijani forces in the Lachin corridor. At the end of 2022, the Republic of Azerbaijan seized the road from Nagorno-Karabakh to Armenia, which is called the Lachin corridor, and attributed this action to environmentalists.

Armenia and local authorities in Nagorno-Karabakh have repeatedly stated that this action by the Republic of Azerbaijan led to the blockade of 120,000 residents of the area and the lack of food and medicine.Despite repeated demands from the world community, Baku continues to block this vital route. The day before, the European Union expressed concern about the humanitarian consequences of the occupation of the Lachin corridor by the forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The European organization noted that "this action threatens the provision of essential food for the inhabitants of the area and raises serious concerns about a possible humanitarian crisis."As AAA news agency reports with reference to the Armenian media, the Republic of Azerbaijan has turned the important Lachin corridor into a military fortress with the help of armored vehicles and engineering barriers, and the delivery of humanitarian cargo to the area has become impossible.

According to the ceasefire agreements reached in November 2021, control over the Lachin corridor was transferred to the Russian peacekeeping forces.Observers are convinced that Baku intends to take advantage of the recent events in Russia and the rebellion of the Wagner militia commander in that country, as well as the greater focus of Russian forces on the movements of these militias, to complete the siege of Nagorno-Karabakh.

The Armenian authorities and the local government of Nagorno-Karabakh have repeatedly accused Baku of trying to carry out ethnic cleansing in this Armenian-populated region.
