Singh Nijjar's assassination, India wants to expel Canadian diplomats

India has asked Canada to withdraw around 40 diplomats from the country by the deadline, according to a report published on Monday, in an escalation of the crisis that erupted in recent weeks after the Ottawa government accused Indian authorities of involvement in the murder of Canadian Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar, designated as a terrorist by New Delhi as head of the Sikh separatist group Khalistan Tiger Force (KTF). According to sources familiar with the matter, reported by the British newspaper "Financial Times", India has threatened to revoke diplomatic immunity from officials who remain after that date. “Declaring more Canadian diplomats personae non gratae would not help the situation and would make it more difficult to reduce the tensions associated with this disagreement,” said Peter Boehm, chair of Canada's Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade.
