The Somali National Army (SNA) has arrested Ali Geelle, the leader of the al Shabaab group who had ties with the al Qaida terrorist network in an operation in the Galgadud region in the middle of Somalia.
The Ministry of Defense of Somalia has stated in its statement sent on the X social network that Ali Geelle has been arrested in Galhareeri district in Galgadud region. In the operation, the Sudanese army has also seized a car and several weapons.
The Ministry of Defense of Somalia has added that the leader of al Shabaab was involved in acts of extortion and the abominable practice of employing children in terrorism.
The Somali National Army, supported by its militia forces, has been waging a war against the al Shabaab group in the southern and central regions of Somalia in the past two and a half years and succeeded in liberating many areas that were held by al Shabaab, including the city of strategic coast of Haradhere in Mudug region.
