Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for "pay attention to the background and causes of (this attack)" at a Security Council meeting on Tuesday, the 24th.
Regarding this, Mr. Guterres said, ``(The attack by Hamas) does not justify the mass killings currently occurring (by Israel) in the Palestinian Gaza Strip,'' adding, ``No matter what, the massacre of civilians and Abductions or bombing of civilian facilities cannot be justified."
"Gaza's fuel reserves will be depleted within days, leading to a humanitarian catastrophe. For this reason, humanitarian aid must be brought into the Gaza Strip without restriction."
``We are deeply concerned about the flagrant violations of international law that are being witnessed in Gaza,'' and added, ``The situation in the Middle East (West Asia) is deteriorating, and there is a possibility that the war in Gaza could spread to the rest of the region.'' "Yes. Killing civilians can never be justified."
Guterres also called for countering anti-Jewish xenophobia and Islamophobia.
