U.S. President Joe Biden met privately yesterday with Shawn Fain, president of the United Auto Workers (Uaw) union. A White House source told the Politico newspaper, recalling that new wage negotiations are about to begin between the union and the country's three largest automakers -- Gm, Ford and Stellantis. Democrats fear a Uaw strike appears likely and would have heavy economic and political repercussions. Uaw, a major institutional supporter of Democratic election campaigns, has so far avoided making official its support for President Joe Biden's re-election campaign, challenging his handling of the transition to electromobility.
