In a recent polling project, the Odoxa Institute asked French citizens to share their views on President Macron’s suggestion of imposing sanctions on Israel.

The results were striking: 74% of French respondents said they support sanctions against Israel if military operations in Gaza continue.

Moreover, 63% expressed support for the recognition of an independent Palestinian state.

These positions echo Macron’s own recent remarks, in which — in a rare and forceful speech — he called the Netanyahu government “unacceptable” and raised the possibility of sanctions against Israel.

Despite strong rhetoric, however, little concrete action has been taken on the ground. Nevertheless, it is now evident that public opinion is exerting significant pressure on French policymakers.

Peace activists and anti-war social groups across France remain hopeful that at least some of these anti-Israel threats may soon translate into tangible policy.
