Nigeria’s Real Crime: Ditching the Dollar

Tuesday, November 11, 2025 59 views

Yet, is America’s true concern really “democracy” Or should we be looking for a real motive somewhere around Nigeria’s oil fields?

In recent years, most news about Nigeria has centered around the government’s brutal crackdowns on Shia Muslims — mass killings during religious ceremonies and the imprisonment and torture of their leader.

But once again, Nigeria’s name is back in global headlines.

Trump has used the country’s treatment of its Christian citizens as an excuse to threaten military action.

Yet, is America’s true concern really “democracy” Or should we be looking for a real motive somewhere around Nigeria’s oil fields?

For years, the U.S. and its Western allies extracted Nigeria’s crude oil, refined it in their own plants, and then sold it back — at outrageous prices.

But China’s recent investments in Nigeria’s national refineries changed the game.

And the blow to American profits didn’t stop there.

Nigeria now plans to ditch the dollar altogether, using its petrochemical products for trade with neighboring countries instead.

That’s something Washington can’t just ignore
