White House Hosts the Architects of Regional Terror
It seems American officials still assume that the world’s perception of their actions is similar to what it was in the early 2000s.
But the people of 2025 are not the people of 2008.
They are fully aware that the labels American politicians attach to friends and foes are mere tags, often disconnected from reality.
This misjudgment by U.S. officials was evident in a bizarre meeting at the White House: the encounter between Muhammad Jolani, head of the ruling Syrian rebels, and President Donald Trump.
Images of their discussion reminded many analysts of the 2016 U.S. presidential debate between Trump and Hillary Clinton—where Trump claimed that “Hillary and Obama created ISIS.”
Later, Julian Assange and WikiLeaks documents suggested that ISIS was actually a creation of the CIA.
