70 people died in Kenya due to floods

According to reports, heavy rains and floods have killed at least 70 people in Kenya since the middle of last March.

This was stated by government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura, which is twice the number reported earlier this week.

However, Mwaura denied claims that hundreds of people have died following the ongoing floods in the country and gave the official death toll.

For several weeks now, the East African country has been witnessing heavy rains that caused flooding in the capital of Kenya, Nairobi, as well as in the western and central regions.

Kenya has recorded heavy rains since the middle of last March, but the rains have intensified in the past week, causing major floods. The Kenya Red Cross says that it has carried out more than 188 rescues since it started in March.

In addition, in the neighboring country of Tanzania, approximately 155 people have died in the country due to the heavy rains associated with El Nino, causing floods and landslides.
