A shooting attack kills at least 22 people in the United States

According to the statistics of the United States government, in this year alone more than 500 incidents of shooting against people have occurred in the country where the gun has become the main cause of death of children. A mass shooting or massacre is characterized by an incident in which four or more people, not including the shooter himself, are killed. According to CNN television, earlier the Maine State Police issued an announcement through the X social network saying: "there is a shooting going on in the city of Lewiston. We are asking people to take cover. Please stay home and lock your doors". Maine security officials have also released photos of the attacker who is now being sought after fleeing, asking the public to help identify the suspect.

According to the officials, the attacker has carried out the murderous attack in three different places. If the death toll of 22 is confirmed, the Lewiston attack would be the deadliest in the United States since August 2019, when a gunman opened fire on shoppers at an El Paso Walmart with an AK-47 rifle, killing 23 people. In a statement he made on July 4, US President Joe Biden said he was saddened by the wave of shootings in the country. The results of an opinion survey conducted by the Pew Institute show that the increase in violence in the United States has motivated the citizens of the country to buy and own weapons, so much so that 72 percent of people say that they either have or intend to buy a gun due to security concerns and for self defense.
