Afghanistan: The Taliban suspend the activities of schools run by NGOs

The Taliban education ministry has decided to suspend the activities of all community schools run by non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in Kandahar and Helmand provinces in Afghanistan. The same dicastery specifies this in a letter shared by the local media, write the Dpa and Belgian agencies, in which inspections are announced by a ministry delegation in all schools in the two regions. However, a Taliban deputy from Kandahar said the suspension is temporary. Since the Taliban took power in Afghanistan in August 2021, they have enforced strict rules, especially in the field of girls' education. Girls cannot continue beyond primary education and opponents are arrested.
