Amnesty International warns US to stop sending weapons to Israel
Amnesty International has called for an arms embargo on the Israeli occupation state. This call was made ahead of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's speech to the US Congress today (Wednesday, July 24). The organization warned the United States in a press release, stating that continuing arms transfers "will make the United States complicit in the violations of international law committed with these weapons."
"The U.S. government has obtained ample evidence from experts around the world that American-made weapons are being used by the Israeli government to commit war crimes and unlawful killings," said Paul O'Brien, the organization's U.S. executive director.
O'Brien noted that the Israeli government was using American weapons in ways that were in serious violation of international human rights law and human rights treaties, as well as American law and policy.
He stressed that the International Court of Justice had stated that "it is implausible to see Israeli forces using American weapons to violate international law on human rights."
O'Brien called on President Biden to end the U.S. government's complicity with the Israeli government in serious violations of international law, saying, "Biden must immediately suspend arms transfers to the government of Israel."
