Application of new US sanctions against North Korea
The US has imposed new sanctions on North Korea. The United States and members of the UN Security Council imposed several rounds of sanctions against North Korea after North Korea's first nuclear test in 2006. Despite these sanctions, North Korea is focusing on strengthening its military capabilities to deal with the threat of US troops in the region.
North Korea says it will not give up its nuclear and missile programs until the United States ends its hostile policy of overthrowing the ruling regime in Pyongyang. The US Treasury Department announced on Thursday that it had sanctioned three members of the Central Committee of North Korea's ruling party for their involvement in the country's ballistic missile program, the Associated Press reported.
According to this report; The US Treasury Department froze the assets of Jun Il Ho and Yoo Jin, director and vice president of the Workers' Party of Korea, and fellow Central Committee member Kim Soo Gil, and prohibited them from doing anything to them. The sanctions come at a time when North Korea has ramped up its ballistic missile tests this year, with more than 60 launches to an unprecedented record, and stepped up pressure on the United States and its ally South Korea.
