Citing the leader's press office, during a meeting with Mohammad al-Sudani, Ayatollah Khamenei called the presence of American occupation forces in Iraq illegal and contrary to the interests of the people and government of that country.
The Iranian leader said: "The available evidence shows that the Americans are trying to expand their presence in Iraq, and this occupation must be seriously opposed."
Referring to developments in the region, especially the situation in Syria, the leader emphasized that the role of foreign governments in these events is obvious.
Speaking about the good relations between the Iraqi government and the people, the leader emphasized the importance of unity between groups of different religions and ethnicities and, addressing Al-Sudani, said: "As you mentioned, the Hashd al-Shaabi is also an important component of the government in Iraq, and efforts should be made to strengthen the group's position."
Praising Al-Sudani's efforts towards the development of Iraq, the leader said: "The more prosperous and secure Iraq is, the better it will be for the Islamic Republic of Iran."
At the meeting, which was also attended by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad Shia al-Sudani expressed satisfaction with the meetings held in Tehran and expressed hope that the agreements reached in Tehran will contribute to the expansion of relations between the two countries.
He noted that "the people," "Hashd al-Shaabi," "national unity and cohesion," and "authority" are the components of Iraq's strength.
Referring to the Zionist regime's aggression in Gaza and Lebanon, he emphasized: "Iraq's principled position has been to support the people of Gaza and Lebanon and the Resistance in the region."
Referring to developments in Syria and the role of foreigners in them, he noted that Iraq's position has always been to support the will of the Syrian people, preserve the independence and territorial integrity of that country, and establish an inclusive government.
