China has defined four red lines for the United States that must not be crossed
President Xi Jinping of China has made clear four red lines that he said should not be crossed by the United States in order to have a balanced and correct relationship between the two countries.
Xi noted this in a conversation with President Joe Biden of the United States held yesterday Saturday on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) conference being held in Lima, Peru, stressing that Beijing aims to develop a "calm, correct and sustainable" relationship with Washington.
In that conversation, the President of China explained that, being two major countries, neither China nor the United States should adjust the other according to his will, oppress him by using the so-called 'power position,' or deny him the legitimate right to development in order to maintain status his leadership".
Xi has continued to explain that, a new Cold War should not be started and fought and cannot be won, and he emphasized by saying: "controlling China is not a wise move, it is unacceptable, and it will end in failure."
The Chinese leader has also emphasized the importance of the two countries interacting equally.
He has admitted that differences between major nations are inevitable, but it is important to respect some basic interests.
The four red lines that Xi has pointed out to Biden are the issue of Taiwan, democracy and human rights, the path and system followed by China, and China's right to development.
The President of China has said that the four borders should not be challenged and crossed; and it is the most important way to guarantee security in his country's relationship with the United States.
Although the United States officially follows the One China policy, and recognizes Taiwan as a part of China despite its self-rule since 1949, it supports Taipei by selling arms and promising military support in case it is attacked by China, a move that from Beijing's point of view is a violation of China's self-governing power.
In addition, the President of China said in his conversation with Biden that his country is ready to work with the next government of President-elect Donald Trump.../
