The hundreds of officers surrounding the campus are members of the New York Police Department's Strategic Response Team, which entered Columbia's Broadway campus.
New York police detained 100 protesters and Palestinian supporters during a raid on Columbia University's "Hamilton Hall" building, NBC News reported on Wednesday.
New York police entered Columbia University at 21:00 local time and announced that the campus was cleared of protesters at 23:00.
It was stated that university officials asked the police to stay at the university until at least May 17.
Additionally, American police intervened with the students who staged a sit-in protest at the University of South Florida in Tampa on Wednesday morning, using tear gas and detained two people.
