American Columbia University has been surrounded by hundreds of police officers since last night in order to end the protest of the students of this university in support of the people of the Gaza Strip.
According to AP, hundreds of police have been stationed in and around the university since Tuesday evening, after the mayor of New York announced that he would end the gathering and sit-in of Columbia University students, blocking one of the main streets leading to the university.
The hundreds of officers surrounding the campus are members of the New York Police Department's Strategic Response Team, which entered Columbia's Broadway campus.
New York police detained 100 protesters and Palestinian supporters during a raid on Columbia University's "Hamilton Hall" building, NBC News reported on Wednesday.
New York police entered Columbia University at 21:00 local time and announced that the campus was cleared of protesters at 23:00.
It was stated that university officials asked the police to stay at the university until at least May 17.
Additionally, American police intervened with the students who staged a sit-in protest at the University of South Florida in Tampa on Wednesday morning, using tear gas and detained two people.
