Continued unrest in Britain

As racist riots and unrest in Britain escalated, the prime minister cancelled a previously planned holiday. The Prime Minister's Office announced on Sunday that Keir Starmer had cancelled his holiday to focus on the government's response to a wave of racist riots against Muslims and immigrants, the AP agency reported.

All British police forces are currently on high alert and, according to the National Police Chiefs' Council, around 800 racists have been arrested and 349 prosecutions have been launched.

Protesters in northern Britain have attempted to break into the Rotterdam Hotel, which is housing asylum seekers.

Protests and riots by racists and the far right in Britain began late last month in response to the murder of three children in the town of Southport by a 17-year-old Rwandan teenager.

Fake news spread online that the suspect in the deadly attack was an asylum seeker has led to violent protests by anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim groups.

Following the escalation of violence, British police said the suspect was born in England and therefore they would not treat the case as a terrorist attack.

Meanwhile, Starmer has been criticised for his slow response to the recent unrest in Britain and his refusal to call an emergency meeting called Cobra after a week of violence and rioting.

Some, including Elon Musk, the American entrepreneur and owner of social media site X, have accused Starmer of using tougher policies against the far right than the political left in response to the violence.
