Dozens of refugees starving to death in Gambella, Ethiopia
The Ethiopian Human Rights Commission (EHRC) has said that more than 30 refugees have lost their lives due to hunger and malnutrition in Gambella province located in the west of the Horn of Africa country. The statement of the commission has said that the state has more than four hundred thousand (400,000) refugees, stressing that there is an urgency to continue sending humanitarian aid to refugee communities in the area. Some of the refugee camps in the province have not received aid since May this year, while others have not received aid since June. "The refugees died due to hunger and malnutrition, while others lost their lives after being attacked when they left the camp to look for food," said the EHRC statement.

The institution for handling refugees of the Ethiopian government has noted that, the armed attacks in the Amhara region that started in August this year and also the continued arrival of refugees in the states of Amhara, Benishangul-Gumuz, Gambella and Somali, from neighboring countries, has contributed to the increase in the need for humanitarian aid in those areas.
