Erdogan responded to US threat to impose sanctions against Turkey
The Turkish President, reacting to the US threat to impose sanctions against his country if it continues to support the Palestinian resistance movement (Hamas), said that, as he has repeatedly noted before, Hamas is not a terrorist organization.
On Friday, the American newspaper The Wall Street Journal, referring to the visit of representatives of the US Treasury Department to Turkey, wrote: “Washington is putting pressure on Ankara to stop supporting Hamas and prohibited trade relations with Russia.” The newspaper also mentions that the US has imposed sanctions on Hamas for the past 10 years and is now pressuring Ankara to prevent Hamas-linked companies from operating in Turkey. They also threatened that if their activities continue, Ankara may face sanctions. At the same time, the local news agency reports that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, having returned from a visit to the UAE, responded to journalists about the US threat to impose sanctions against Turkey, saying that the Americans support the PKK (Kurdistan Workers' Party) and the Fethullah Gülen movement . They even reward them and cannot expect us to interpret Hamas the way they want. Hamas is the reality of Palestine, which won the elections." He also noted: "Hamas only protects those lands that they managed to hold from 1947 to this day. Anyone can say whatever they want, but I will not be able to recognize Hamas as a terrorist organization."
