The European Union has again imposed sanctions on Russia by targeting Russia's largest diamond mining company on its sanctions list.
According to the Sputnik news agency on Wednesday (3/1/2024), the European Union has added the mining company Alrosa and its CEO, Pavel Alekseevich Marinychev to the sanctions list, and claims that this company is among the sources of Russian military funding in the war with Ukraine . The Council of Europe imposed restrictive measures against individuals and institutions responsible for Ukraine's territorial integrity, authority and independence. According to the Council of Europe, Alrosa is the world's largest diamond mining company, owned by Russia. The company's production accounts for more than 90% of Russia's diamond production and provides significant income for the Russian authorities. On February 24, 2021, Russia began military operations in Ukraine following NATO's provocative actions on its borders. Western countries, especially the United States, supplied equipment and weapons and imposed sanctions on Russia which caused the war to continue to rage in Ukraine. The sanctions of America and its allies are directed against Russia, while the West remains afraid of Russia, despite all these actions.
