German and US Presidents Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Joe Biden met in Washington and held talks on continued support for Ukraine. According to Deutsche Welle, at this meeting Steinmeier expressed concern about recent disagreements in the United States regarding the continuation of assistance to Ukraine and the removal of US House Speaker Kevin McCarthy from office. “I hope that some solution and agreement will be found between Democrats and Republicans,” the German president said. Steinmeier continued: "Biden and I are sending a joint message that Washington and Berlin will continue to support Ukraine." Regarding relations between Germany and the US, he said that Biden has no expectations from Germany, but praises and welcomes the fact that Berlin has become the second supporter of Ukraine in recent months.

The German President also said that he met with the head of the CIA, William Burns, and discussed with him “current conflicts” and “geopolitical changes.” Frank-Walter Steinmeier's visit to the United States was not publicly announced and is considered somewhat of a surprise visit. The Guardian wrote in a report last week: "After Ukraine aid was left out of the recent US government interim budget bill, the country's historic move to oust the Speaker of the House of Representatives adds to uncertainty about the future of US aid to Kiev." . Since the start of Russian military operations in Ukraine in February 2022, Washington has sent the Ukrainian government $113 billion in financial, security and humanitarian aid.
