Guterres: I have fasted in Ramadan to respect the faith of the Muslims of Gaza
The Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, has revealed that he fasted during Ramadan during his solidarity trip with the people of Gaza to show respect for the beliefs of the Muslims he visited, referring to his visit to the Rafah crossing on Saturday and his visit to the city Cairo Sunday this week.
Guterres said this in a message he wrote on his X platform account, where he also said that he felt pain because "many Palestinians in Gaza cannot eat proper food for the future".
"My fasting during the Ramadan solidarity mission is to respect the faith of the Muslims I visit. However, my heart is broken knowing that many Palestinians in Gaza will not be able to have a proper Iftar", said the Secretary General of the United Nations in his online message of X
During his visit to the Rafah crossing located on the border of Egypt and the Gaza Strip, Antonio Guterres said: It is sad to see that trucks with humanitarian aid are parked on one side of the crossing while the hunger bar tortures people on the other side.
Guterres warned of the international impact of the war in Gaza, and said that there is a human crisis in the region, and that the daily attacks against the Palestinian people create a crisis of credibility for the international community.
In the daily report published by the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza yesterday (Tuesday, March 26), it was announced that the occupying forces had carried out a total of 8 massacres in the last 24 hours in the genocidal attacks they were carrying out in the region, and that a total of 81 people were martyred and 93 people were injured in these massacres and other attacks.
In the statement of the Ministry of Health, the total number of those martyred so far in the genocidal attacks launched on October 7, 2023 is 32 thousand 414, and the number of injured is 74 thousand 787; However, it was stated that this number does not include those who were under the rubble and those who were killed by the occupying forces and whose bodies were scattered on the roads. In the statement, it was stated that medical teams and civil defense personnel had great difficulties in reaching them due to the attacks and obstructions of the occupying forces, where there were thousands of people under the rubble and on the roads.
It is stated that the total number of those martyred, injured and missing in the genocidal attacks that the occupying forces have been continuing for 172 days has exceeded 115 thousand. 72% of them are women and children. Since the occupying forces have destroyed many houses, around 2 million people are trying to survive in asylum centers that have turned into concentration camps.
At the same time, there is a serious hunger crisis as humanitarian aid is prevented from reaching the region due to the starvation policy implemented by the occupying regime. Humanitarian aid is completely prevented from reaching the northern part, where 700 thousand people live, by using the military corridor opened by the occupying regime, and there is a large-scale hunger problem in this region. Humanitarian aid can only reach the Rafah region, where one and a half million people are crowded into hoards, and the Khan Yunus region, where approximately 300 thousand people live, only through the Rafah border gate. However, due to the threats of the occupying regime and the negligence of the Egyptian administration, a very limited amount of food supplies can reach this region, and there is a serious hunger crisis in this region.
