Hungary will soon approve the draft law for Sweden's membership in NATO
The Prime Minister of Hungary announced that the Parliament of this country will approve the draft law on Sweden's membership in NATO in the first session after the end of the holidays.
According to Sputnik, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán announced that the country's parliament will soon approve Sweden's NATO membership agreement. In his annual speech on the country's policy priorities, he said: The Hungarian parliament will approve Sweden's NATO membership agreement at the start of the spring session, which is scheduled to open on February 26. Orban further added: Our dispute with Sweden is coming to an end. Together with the Prime Minister of Sweden, we have taken important steps towards rebuilding trust. We are getting closer to being able to approve Sweden's accession to NATO at the beginning of the spring parliamentary session. The spring session of the Hungarian Parliament will begin on February 26 after the winter break. In the summer of 2022, the Hungarian cabinet presented a bill to parliament to approve Sweden's membership in NATO. Hungary is the only remaining NATO country whose parliament has yet to approve the bill. On March 27, 2023, the Hungarian Parliament gave the green light to Finland's NATO membership, but postponed consideration of Sweden's proposal. The two Northern European countries simultaneously applied for NATO membership on May 18, 2022 and said this move was due to developments in Ukraine.
