"I'm tired of the hypocrisy of Westerners": German "Günther Wilhelm Grass" poem against Zionists

Israel's aggressive policies are not hidden even from some famous Western thinkers and figures; So much so that many of them criticized the cruelty of this regime and left permanent works that stuck like an arrow into the heart of this regime.

"I'm tired of the hypocrisy of Westerners": German "Günther Wilhelm Grass" poem against Zionists

One of these names is Günther Wilhelm Grass, a German writer and poet who won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1999. Grass, who has received numerous awards as well as honorary doctorate degrees from universities throughout the United States, is considered a distinguished writer and sculptor. He passed away at the age of 87 in a hospital in Lübeck, Germany.

Controversial Poem: "What Should Be Said"

In 2012, he published an anti-Israel poem called "What Must Be Said", drawing widespread attention in German and Western media and the ire of supporters of the Israeli occupation regime and Zionist leaders. Grass wrote the poem after Germany sold nuclear-capable submarines to Israel.

Criticisms in the Poem:

Israel's nuclear weapons: Grass argued that Israel's nuclear weapons threaten the fragile peace in the world.

Lack of international control: Grass criticized the lack of international control and oversight over Israel's nuclear capabilities.

Germany's submarine sale: Grass condemned Germany's sale of submarines to Israel in order to control its nuclear program.

Western hypocrisy: Grass criticized the hypocrisy of the West for remaining silent on Israel's actions.

The publication of the poem drew the ire of leaders of the Israeli regime, despite the illuminating perspective Grass offered to the public as a Nobel Prize-winning author. Grass said that after intense criticism of his poem, there was a campaign directed against him in the German media and that this was not good for democracy and freedom of expression. He has repeatedly emphasized that he will never take back the stance he took against Israel. Grass also noted that there are many people who share their views, but they are not reflected in the mainstream media.
