Imran Khan and his assistant are sentenced to 10 years in prison for leaking the secrets of the Government of Pakistan
A Pakistani court has sentenced former prime minister Imran Khan and his close aide, former home affairs minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, to 10 years in prison in a case related to the leaking of government secrets.
A special court formed in the prison of Rawalpindi, yesterday Tuesday announced the verdict in the case named 'cypher', related to the diplomatic cable that Khan claims confirms his claim that his removal from power in 2022 was due to a conspiracy involving the American government. A court established under the Official Secrets Act found Khan guilty of misusing a secret cable sent by Pakistan's former ambassador to the United States. Khan has repeatedly denied the charge, saying the document contains evidence that shows that his removal as prime minister was a conspiracy organized by his political opponents and a powerful military, with the help of the US administration, although Washington and the Pakistani military have denied the accusation. The former Prime Minister of Pakistan has described the sentence given against him as the same as the result of the match that was arranged in advance. Imran Khan was the prime minister of Pakistan from August 2018 to April 2022 when he lost the post after the Parliament passed a vote of no confidence in him. He has been in jail since August last year serving a three-year sentence in a corruption case. The case has caused Khan to lose his qualifications to run in the general election scheduled for February 8. Syed Zulfiqar Bukhari, the spokesperson of Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has told the media that PTI will challenge the court's decision.../
