Iraqi official: Electricity is US leverage in blackmailing Iraq
Al-Fath, one of the leaders of the Iraqi parliamentary coalition, said that the Americans are striving to maintain their economic hegemony in Iraq and for this reason will not allow the implementation of the recent agreement between Tehran and Baghdad in the gas sector.
Uday Abdul-Hadi said in an interview with the Al-Maluma news site: "America will obstruct the implementation of this agreement because this country plans to handle the Iraqi electricity case through its embassy in order to use it as leverage against the Iraqi government anytime wants."
He stated that the US goal is to put pressure on Iraq and maintain its hegemony over Iraq in terms of electricity and dollars. Because these two issues are important to the Iraqi economy, and whenever Washington wants, it will use this method for blackmail.
The Iraqi Prime Minister's Office has previously stated that the agreement was entered into as part of the Iraqi government's efforts to resolve the gas supply crisis for power plants and prevent financial problems and complications caused by US sanctions that prevent the continuation of payment of Iranian gas prices, and this agreement guarantees the process of supplying gas and starting up the power plant, as well as the stability of electricity production.
The Iraqi Prime Minister's Office announced on Tuesday that Baghdad and Tehran have signed an agreement under which Iranian gas exports to Iraq will resume in exchange for receiving Iraqi oil and fuel oil. once again began to work to prevent full implementation of the agreement.
