Jordan, yes to Syria's return to the Arab League

AMMAN – Syria will rejoin the Arab League after the organization suspended its membership in a move Damascus has denounced as illegal.

"The return will happen. Symbolically, it will be important," Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi said in an interview with CNN.

The Arab League suspended Syria's membership in 2011 as the country found itself in the grip of overwhelming US-backed militancy and terrorism and Washington's allies in the region.

In recent weeks most of the Arab countries have resumed relations with the Syrian government of President Bashar al Assad. And this after relations between Damascus and other Arab governments broke down between 2011 and 2012 under US repression.

In 2012, Syria was suspended from the Arab League. In recent days, a meeting was held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, between Saudi Arabia, Qatar and seven other Arab countries to discuss the possible reintegration of Syria into the inter-Arab assembly.
