Lawmakers are urging investigations into Israel's use of US weapons against Palestinians
Two US lawmakers are pushing President Joe Biden's administration to investigate whether Israel is using US weapons to commit human rights abuses against Palestinians. In a drafted letter to Biden and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Democratic Rep. Jamaal Bowman and Sen. Bernie Sanders called on Washington to determine whether there have been violations of the Arms Export Control Act and the Foreign Assistance Act, which prohibit the entry of American weapons used for rights abuses. The Biden administration, they said, should ensure that US taxpayer funds do not support "projects in illegal settlements" and that any future assistance to Israel is not used "in support of gross human rights violations." They also called on the Biden administration "to undertake a change in US policy in recognition of the worsening violence, further land annexation and denial of Palestinian rights" by the Tel Aviv regime.
