NATO sent its warships to the Mediterranean
The NATO alliance has sent a number of warships and minesweepers to the Mediterranean Sea to conduct exercises to counter minefields. According to RT news agency, seven NATO warships, including ships, destroyers and minesweepers from Turkey, Italy, Great Britain and the United States, entered the Mediterranean Sea to participate in the exercises. NATO said in a statement: "It is vital that we can keep these strategic routes open so that commercial vessels can pass through them safely." Earlier, the media reported that Russia sent a support ship "Admiral Gorshkov" to the Mediterranean Sea to carry out a mission to protect Russian forces in the port of Tartus in Syria.
The Admiral Gorshkov will spend two months in the Mediterranean and will maintain contact with the Tartus naval base, where Russian naval installations are located. Speculation about a new Russian presence in the Mediterranean to protect Russian troops in Syria comes as tensions between the West and Russia persist, and these tensions are spilling over into other parts of the world such as the Arctic. The other day, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that a Russian warship and a dry cargo ship rescued 68 people from a boat in the Mediterranean Sea. The warship "Admiral Gorshkov" and a Russian dry cargo ship rescued the passengers of a passenger ship with Greek and German flags from mortal danger.
