Netanyahu to stop 'judicial reforms'
On the eve of the vote in the Israeli Knesset to approve an important point of the controversial bill (on judicial reform), the US President called on the authorities of the Zionist regime to “postpone” the approval of this bill. Joe Biden called on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu not to force judicial reform in the country and pay attention to the consolidation of society. His words are quoted by the Axios portal. “Given the full range of threats and challenges that Israel is facing right now, it makes no sense for the Israelis to rush into this, but instead it is worth focusing on bringing people together and seeking consensus,” the American president emphasized.
Biden said the judicial reform project as it stands would further divide Israelis. On July 22, tens of thousands of Israelis took part in a protest march against the judicial reform, they gathered outside the Knesset (parliament) building in Quds. The action was timed to coincide with the voting on one of the parts of the judicial reform. Netanyahu's reform implies a significant expansion of the Knesset's control over the judicial branch of power. In March, he announced that he was firing Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant. This happened after he said that judicial reform threatens the security of the country. On March 27, the prime minister agreed with Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir and postponed the adoption of a law on judicial reform. But already on April 10, Netanyahu reinstated Galant, after which large-scale protests began in the Zionist regime.
