Pashinyan: war between Armenia and Azerbaijan is likely
The Prime Minister of Armenia said that until the peace treaty is signed and approved by the parliaments of the two countries, there is a high probability of a new war with Azerbaijan. In an interview with a French news agency published on Friday, Nikol Pashinyan accused Baku of pursuing, as he put it, "a policy of ethnic cleansing" and said: "Negotiations between the two countries are hindered by" aggressive and continuous rhetoric and incitement of hatred by Azerbaijan against Armenians "."
He stressed that the sovereignty, territorial integrity, rights and security of the Armenians of Karabakh are the red lines of Yerevan in negotiations with Baku. Pashinyan asked the West and Russia to increase pressure on Baku to lift the blockade of Nagorno-Karabakh. In December 2022, Azerbaijan blocked the route connecting Nagorno-Karabakh with Armenia, known as the Lachin corridor. As a result, 120,000 residents of the area have been under siege, according to Armenia, resulting in a shortage of food, medicine and other essentials, and due to a lack of medicine and medical facilities, many seriously ill people in Nagorno-Karabakh are at risk of death.
