Request for Investigation of Foreign War Crimes in Afghanistan
Taliban Interim Government Minister for Afghan Refugees says: "It is necessary to investigate the war crimes committed by foreign countries in this country." According to the AAA news agency, Khalil Rahman Haqqani said: "Countries that committed war crimes in Afghanistan during the past four decades and exterminated Afghans in various ways should be presented to the International Criminal Court." He added: "The Soviet Union and all its henchmen both inside and outside the country, as well as the United States, NATO and all the countries that destroyed Afghanistan, are today responsible for the situation in Afghanistan, they must report to the Afghans and appear before the International Criminal Court." Earlier, the efforts of the International Criminal Court to investigate US war crimes in Afghanistan failed due to threats from Washington. Former US President Donald Trump sanctioned the former prosecutor of this court for trying to investigate the crimes of US soldiers in Afghanistan. In response, the White House ordered economic sanctions and travel restrictions on employees of the International Court of Justice in The Hague who were investigating US war crimes in Afghanistan. Following these threats, the new Attorney General of the International Criminal Court, Karim Khan, said that investigating US war crimes in Afghanistan was not a priority for the court.
