The Islamic Council of Britain has announced that anti-Islamic crimes have increased significantly in some areas of the country. Recent figures from the Home Office and reports from independent institutions that monitor discrimination and hatred against various religions in the UK show that acts of Islamophobia are increasing rapidly against Muslims living in the country.
Citing a Manchester police report on the rise in Islamophobic crime, the Islamic Council of Britain has announced that Islamophobic crime has increased from 39 to 85 cases per month.
The figures show a growing systematic disregard for acts of hate against Islam as a form of racism; a situation which highlights the need for the British government to take urgent and strong action to combat such attacks.
The Islamic Council of Britain has also stressed the need to strengthen existing laws to combat hate crimes, implement strategies to combat Islamophobia, while at the same time allocating resources to support victims and prevent similar incidents from recurring.
