Russia opens investigation into 'terrorist financing' involving Western countries

The Russian Investigative Committee said yesterday on Tuesday that the funds received by some American companies in Ukraine in recent years have been used to carry out terrorist acts in the country.

Moscow's Investigative Committee has said it is "investigating the sources of income" worth millions of dollars and "the involvement of specific individuals between government officials and public commercial organizations of Western countries."

It has named the companies suspected to be the Burisma Holding oil and gas company that has employed the son of the US president, Hunter Biden.

"It has been confirmed that the funds received through commercial organizations, including the oil and gas company Burisma Holding, operating in Ukraine in recent years were used to carry out terrorist acts in Russia," the committee said.

It said the investigation is working to find "links between direct perpetrators of terrorist attacks and their foreign managers, organizations and sponsors."

Russia has accused Ukraine and the West of being involved in last month's attack on a concert hall near Moscow that killed 144 people.
