Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that the European Union has always received signals of political action from Washington and will continue to do so while Donald Trump is in power; and that despite some of the union's leaders strongly opposing Trump's re-election, the new US president will "restore stability" and EU compliance "very quickly"
Putin said it had been decades since Europe last had strong politicians who could freely express their opinions without relying on Washington, referring to the eras of former French President Jacques Chirac and German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder; adding, however, that in recent years, EU policies have been driven by "political petty creatures" who lack education and competence.
The Russian President noted in the interview that European leaders do not like Trump and have actively fought him by interfering in his political life and even the US elections, adding that, he believes, it will not be long before the EU starts following orders from Washington again.
"I assure you, with Trump's stubborn nature, he will restore discipline very quickly. And you will see them all soon standing in front of the master and wagging their tails gently," Putin said.
Throughout the US presidential race last year, many European leaders were expressing concern about Trump's potential return to the White House, alarmed by his "America First" rhetoric, threats to impose tariffs on EU goods, his criticism of the bloc's low contribution to NATO's defense spending, and his calls for a change in the course of the Ukraine conflict.
However, after congratulating Trump on his victory in the November election, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz were quick to call on the European Union to unite to confront the leader's return to power.../
