South Africa calls for the empowerment of entrepreneurs in Africa
South Africa has asked the leaders and policy makers of African countries to prepare an enabling environment for entrepreneurs in the African continent to ensure that they get the desired prosperity and development.
The call has been made by the Deputy President of South Africa, Paul Mashatile, at the Global Entrepreneurship Africa Conference (GEC+Africa) which started on Wednesday and ended last Thursday in Cape Town.
GEC+Africa is a conference that brought together entrepreneurs and leaders from more than 50 African countries and its main goal is to develop entrepreneurial activities in the countries of the continent.
The two-day conference was attended by more than 1,500 delegates, including representatives of small and medium enterprises (SMMEs), investors in various sectors, policy makers and representatives of different organizations.
Mashatile said: "The GEC+Africa Conference has been held at the right time and very important considering the current state of the world economy, especially the ongoing efforts in Africa to reorganize our continent."
The Deputy President of South Africa has said that the continent of Africa is overflowing with wealth, sustenance and potential of all kinds that have not been used until now. He said Africa is the center of innovation and creativity that is waiting to be reawakened.
On her part, the Minister of Small Business Development of South Africa, Miss Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams, who also addressed the conference, has called on African governments to create enabling systems to properly support entrepreneurship in the continent.
He said: "In addition to formulating policies, governments must lead and strengthen their entrepreneurship ecosystems and establish strong strategies to support this important sector."
