According to a report by The Economist, a British newspaper, if Ukraine were to sign a $500 billion reparations agreement with the United States, given its current economic growth rate, it would take hundreds of years to repay the debt.

The Economist report explained that, according to the text of a new draft agreement proposed by the United States for Ukraine, Kyiv would be required to pay to a new investment fund owned by the US government 50 percent of government revenues generated from its infrastructure and natural resources, such as ports.
 
According to The Economist, a Ukrainian official said: “If we sign this draft in its current form, tomorrow a group of angry thugs will throw us out of our offices and hang us.”
 
According to the report, on February 20, Kiev received a copy of its agreement with the United States that has been described as a "worst disaster," and which was overseen by US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick. The Economist reported that Ukrainian officials believe that Kiev will receive a draft that is "worst disaster" because it refused to sign previously proposed drafts.
 
On February 3, US President Donald Trump announced that Washington expects Kiev to give up its scarce mineral resources in exchange for military and financial aid from the country. The Washington Post reported on February 14 that US representatives at a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Munich proposed signing a document that would give the US the right to use 50 percent of the country's unexploited mineral resources. Zelensky later announced that he refused to sign the agreement because he felt it was not in Ukraine's interests.../
