The Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) congratulated the people and government of Iran on joining this organization and said, "We expect Iran to become more actively involved in the SCO cooperation process." According to the AAA news agency, Chang Ming said yesterday, “At the same time as applying to join the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, Iran has taken many initiatives and efforts to participate in various formats of cooperation within the organization and to support it, and has also made significant contributions to development of the SCO, so that today's decision of the heads of the SCO member states supports Iran's important contribution to the development of the organization and recognizes Iran's role in maintaining regional and international peace and security."
Zhang Ming also called progress the accession to the unification of Iran, as well as the signing of a memorandum of commitment of Belarus to join.“Iran's accession is progress, Belarus' new step towards accession is also progress. More and more countries are knocking on the doors of the SCO in the hope of joining this big family,” Zhang Ming told reporters on Tuesday after the 23rd SCO Summit.The Secretary General added that this process indicates that the norms and goals pursued by the organization have been recognized by the international community.Zhang Ming also pointed out that the influence of the SCO has been steadily growing in recent years, and the international status of the organization has been constantly rising, despite the difficult international situation.“We expect Iran to play an important role in cooperation within the framework of the SCO,” Zhang Ming concluded.The Islamic Republic of Iran became a full member of this organization last year, and the officials of the SCO member states in their congratulations expressed satisfaction with Iran's accession as a state that has many opportunities and abilities that can strengthen the potential of this organization.
