The US has once again humiliated Europe

In a move that underscores the US policy of humiliating Europe, Secretary of State Mark Rubio has canceled a previously scheduled meeting with EU foreign policy chief Kaia Kallas.

The meeting was scheduled for February 26 and 27.
The Associated Press reported that the cancellation of the meeting: “After her visit to Washington, Kallas said that political tensions between Europe and the United States have increased.”

Earlier, the Financial Times, referring to the positions of Donald Trump’s team on the Ukraine issue and noting that they indicate the emergence of a gap between Kiev and Washington, wrote: “The United States has now become an enemy of the West.”

In an interview with the Associated Press, European officials said they were surprised, and Kallas was shocked, because the meeting with Rubio was confirmed only two days ago. The
purpose of the EU foreign policy chief’s trip to the United States was to prevent an increase in tensions between Europe and the United States.

In recent weeks, US President Donald Trump has disrupted the partnership between the United States and Europe with his threats to impose higher tariffs on European imports.
Tensions with Europe have also increased over the negotiations to end the war in Ukraine, which have not taken into account Europe’s opinion.

Senior Trump administration officials have warned Europe that it must take responsibility for its own security, including for Ukraine. The European Union has therefore been sidelined in the negotiations. Notably, the United States voted against a European resolution condemning Russia for its invasion of Ukraine.

In an interview with Politico magazine, an EU diplomat noted, “It seems that the Trump administration is not missing any opportunity to ignore the EU. Trump is trying to show that the EU is no longer a political actor.”

The Trump administration’s positions are now closer to those of the Russian government and European governments. The Russian Foreign Ministry has stated that the European Union, with its militaristic approach, has no place in the peace talks in Ukraine.Meanwhile, EU governments and officials are trying to calmly respond to the Trump administration’s unilateral and humiliating actions. But this position does not affect the US view of Europe in any way. On the contrary, the Trump administration is more confident in its contempt for Europe and more determined in its “America First” strategy.

Trump has quickly destroyed Europe’s 70-year relationship with the US in the political, economic, security and climate spheres, and through the “America First” policy, the EU is trying to reshape that relationship by prioritizing American interests. And the European Union cannot respond quickly to the actions of the Trump administration.Europe wants to implement changes through negotiations and dialogue, but the Trump administration leaves no time for negotiations and only expects compliance with American demands. For this reason, Kiev and European countries were absent from the talks to establish peace in Ukraine.
