Thousands of demonstrators gathered in Washington on Saturday to protest against Donald Trump’s upcoming inauguration, scheduled for Monday. The protest was led by women’s rights activists, racial justice advocates, and other social organizations, voicing concerns that Trump’s proposed policies could threaten fundamental rights, particularly for women, immigrants, and minorities.
According to Reuters, the turnout was relatively smaller compared to the protests during Trump’s first inauguration in 2017. Organizers had anticipated approximately 50,000 participants, but local police estimated the crowd at nearly half that number.
More than 300 rallies were held nationwide in support of the Washington protest, aimed at raising awareness about the potential impacts of Trump administration policies. Protesters expressed deep concerns over issues such as employment, healthcare, immigration, and environmental policies.
Trump has already signaled that his administration would implement significant changes from day one, including deporting undocumented immigrants and eliminating certain federal government departments. In response, security measures in Washington have been significantly heightened. Law enforcement agencies remain on high alert, with barricades and road closures in place across the city to prevent any disruptions.
Organizers emphasized that the protests will not end with the inauguration. Leaders from civil rights organizations declared their intent to continue demonstrating until their voices are heard and tangible policy changes are made.
Participants in the protest carried signs and chanted slogans such as “We will not back down” and “Protect our rights.” Demonstrators vowed to stand against policies they perceive as harmful to women, immigrants, and other marginalized communities.
Large-scale demonstrations are also planned for Inauguration Day, with thousands of participants expected to arrive from various states across the country.
