Türkiye-Greece: Gas fields, disputed islands, dispute over Cyprus
What fate can a desperate king give to the sea that bears his name? Aegeus, mythological ruler of Athens, saw his son Theseus' ship arrive with black sails, thought he was dead and jumped into the waves. Even today, that unhappy sea is the scene of unresolved disputes, disputed by at least three countries, afflicted by economic wars over huge oil and gas fields.
Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias thanked his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu for "his very important announcement that Turkey will support and vote in favor of Greece's candidacy as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for 2025-26".
The statement by the Greek minister took place on the sidelines of the meeting with Cavusoglu at the Donor Conference for Turkey and Syria held in Brussels. On this occasion, Dendias announced that he had informed the Turkish Foreign Minister that Greece will support Ankara's candidacy for the General Secretariat of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
Finally, Dendias recalled how Cavusoglu was the foreign prime minister who called him after the train tragedy of Tebi, which took place in Greece on February 28, to offer the condolences of the Turkish government.
