UN Condemns Israeli Settlements as Violation of International Law

The UN Special Coordinator for Middle East Peace Affairs, Tor Wennesland, has expressed grave concerns over Israeli settlements in the West Bank, categorizing them as a clear breach of international law.

In a recent post on the social network X, Wennesland described the decision by an Israeli security cabinet minister to legalize five settlements in the occupied West Bank as "deeply disturbing." He stated, "Such measures, along with other actions that undermine the Palestinian Authority and bolster settlement expansion in the West Bank, exacerbate tensions and diminish the prospects of achieving a peace based on a two-state solution."

Wennesland emphasized that these settlements represent the most blatant example of violations against international laws and United Nations resolutions. The international community, including the UN, has consistently maintained that Israeli settlements in occupied territories are illegal under the Fourth Geneva Convention
