UN Efforts to Establish a Lasting Ceasefire in Sudan
Haq's remarks came as UN Secretary-General António Guterres reiterated his call on the parties to the conflict in Sudan to immediately cease hostilities, noting that the UN must coordinate closely with partners to reduce tensions and establish a lasting ceasefire in Sudan.
Meanwhile, the parties to the conflict recently made the third ceasefire announcement in the last nine days. Fighting in Sudan began on April 15, resulting in more than 420 deaths.
The Sudanese army and the rebels of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have concluded a temporary truce. This was announced by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken on April 25.
In turn, the President of the Comoros, Azali Assoumani, who is the chairman of the African Union, expressed his readiness to visit Khartoum if security is provided there.
Recall that in Sudan there are battles between the special forces of Sudan and the armed forces of the country, as a result of which more than 600 people were killed.
