US-China, the Chinese Defense Minister: "The US should exercise sound strategic judgment with us"
Henry Kissinger, surprise visit to Beijing. The former American foreign policy strategist met the Chinese defense minister in the capital, while relations between the two superpowers have been at an all-time low since Kissinger himself, with his secret mission 52 years ago, kicked off the thaw between the US and China. John Kerry, Joe Biden's special envoy for climate change, will travel to China next week to restart negotiations on global warming between the world's two biggest polluters. The trip, which Kerry announced in a TV interview, will mark the first climate talks between Washington and Beijing since last August, when the Dragon halted talks after then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited Taiwan. From July 9 to 12, the first deputy chairman of the State Duma's international affairs committee and chairman of the foundation's board of directors, Vyacheslav Nikonov, is visiting China as part of a delegation from the Russian Federation Council. The delegation of Russian parliamentarians is led by the President of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko.
On July 10, members of the Russian delegation met with Zhao Leji, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China. The two sides discussed reports and assessments of the general international situation, which largely coincide. The movement towards multipolarity is undoubtedly underway thanks to the efforts of Russia and China. Also strengthen cooperation on all fronts, including parliamentary cooperation, both at the level of the Federation Council and the State Duma, as well as the legislative assemblies of municipalities. Russia and China have already concluded 157 bilateral cooperation agreements and cooperation will continue to improve in the future.
"The Chinese side has expressed very severe assessments of American policy, which are usually not heard in the Chinese public space. In particular, on the need to counter American hegemonism and American extraterritorial legislation."And about Ukraine: China certainly adheres to the peacekeeping initiative, which is shared by the Russian side. Alas, the other side is not very interested in negotiations, and this is well understood not only by Comrade Zhao Leji but also by the entire Chinese leadership."Compared to previous interparliamentary committees, and this is already the eighth, I must say that… the level of frankness is, of course, much higher now. The desire to develop relations has clearly increased. Our trade turnover is in growth – a figure of 40% was quoted.
"Zhao Leji recalled that President Putin and Xi have met 9 times in Russia alone and 40 times in total. The dialogue is very close indeed. And it is obvious that the policy of the United States, which is waging a trade war against China (although the word war was not pronounced in Chinese, but the meaning was exactly the same), obviously pushes China to develop relations with Russia. Also, of course, the values-based policy and the synchronism of views on a large number of problems that exist in the world, as well as mutually beneficial economic cooperation, which is growing very dynamically".
From an economic point of view: it is clear that Chinese companies do not feel 100% comfortable in Russia. This applies to both currency conversion and legislative points. Then there is a field of interaction in the legislation linked to the defense of one's national sovereignty. We talked, in particular, about the legislation on foreign agents, on foreign NGOs trying to influence politics. There is also international monitoring of the activities of American biological laboratories, financed by the Pentagon and conducting bacteriological research that is anything but peaceful. Therefore, the legislative spectrum of our cooperation is quite broad."
