Alexei Navalny was arrested and detained at the Moscow airport in January 20211 while returning to the capital of Russia after being treated in Berlin, Germany. He went to Germany for treatment due to what was alleged to have been poisoned.

In August last year, a Russian court sentenced Navalny to 19 years in prison for supporting an extremist group while in prison.
