Warning about the goals and consequences of American support for Armenia
Armenian Defense Minister Suren Papikyan and Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin, warned about the goals and consequences of America's support for Armenia.
“Undoubtedly, America’s support for Armenia demonstrates Washington’s strategic interests in strengthening its position in the region. Support in the military, infrastructure, and cybersecurity sectors is one of the most important aspects of this cooperation. But this policy increases tensions in the region and makes Armenia a center of geopolitical competition.”
At the same time, American activity in the region is weakening Moscow's traditional dominance and turning the South Caucasus into a new arena of geopolitical competition. Washington's reform policy is increasing Armenia's economic and military dependence on America and limiting the country's opportunities to interact with its neighbors.
Expanding cooperation between the United States and Armenia in the military, security, and infrastructure sectors poses numerous risks and challenges for the South Caucasus region. Among these risks are the following:
1. Threat to regional stability: Changing Armenia's military standards to NATO standards could increase tension and instability in the region.
2. Risks of the Cyber Operations Center: The goals and activities of this center, created with the support of the United States, are unclear and worrying for neighboring countries.
It should be noted that the deepening of cooperation between the United States and Armenia could become a factor of profound changes in the South Caucasus. But these developments bring with them not only opportunities, but also serious challenges and problems that could affect geopolitical stability and the balance of power in the region.
