Warning about the security implications of the rupture in the US political atmosphere

The American television network NBC has written in its report on the issue of the rise of extremist ideology in the cyberspace, warning about the security consequences of the rupture of the American political shield.

Referring to the New Year's Eve attack in New Orleans, NBC television reported: "We are witnessing a perfect storm. Violent online politics and political rifts are increasing the risk of attacks."

The US media has assessed the proliferation of extremist groups and their ideological differences as one of the characteristics of the new wave of extremism, noting that the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and other security agencies must now confront individual attackers with different ideologies.

The US media's recognition of the increasing threats posed by the fracturing of the US political climate, which is accompanied by a sharp increase in political violence and armed attacks, exemplified by the recent attack in New Orleans, has once again raised the issue of domestic terrorism in American society.

At least 15 people have been killed and about 35 others injured in a car and gun attack that occurred late at night in the US city of New Orleans on a street where New Year's celebrations were taking place.

The FBI has declared that the incident was a terrorist incident and that an ISIL or ISIS flag was found in the car driven by the attacker, who is a native of that country.

The attacker's name has been given as Shamsud Din Jabbar.

It has also been revealed that Jabbar is a 42-year-old retired American soldier.

US President Joe Biden has said there is evidence that the perpetrator of the New Orleans attack was inspired by the ISIS group. Meanwhile, a Tesla Cybertruck explosion outside Donald Trump's hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada, has killed one person and injured seven others. The incident is being investigated as an act of terrorism.

Although NBC has attempted to attribute the rise in political unrest to social media and online algorithms, it must be said that the roots of domestic terrorism in the United States go back decades; and opposition groups have so far carried out several major terrorist attacks in the United States.

A significant component of domestic terrorism in the United States is composed of individuals and militant groups with conservative and right-wing views. Right-wing movements and groups range from supporters of state government authority and opponents of federal government policies to racist groups and opponents of racial and religious minority communities in the United States, as well as individuals with extreme right-wing leanings who oppose immigration and want whites to be recognized as a superior and superior race. The attack on the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021, carried out by supporters of Donald Trump, many of whom were members and supporters of right-wing militant movements and groups, drew public attention to the chronic and growing issue of domestic terrorism in the United States. In January 2021, President Joe Biden referred to Trump's armed supporters as "domestic terrorists". Biden's stance is considered very important because it has officially recognized, albeit belatedly, that far-right groups that recognize white people as the superior race and generation over other human beings are terrorist groups.

Considering the recent terrorist incidents in the United States, we can point to a new face of political violence and chaos in the country that claims to be the leader of the capitalist world, namely, violence arising from extremist ideologies, including Salafism. The recent attack in New Orleans on New Year's Eve should be considered an example of such violence and chaos.

On the other hand, the economic and social situation has contributed greatly to the increase in political extremism, and factors such as the 2008 financial crisis, the Corona pandemic and economic instability have led to increased despair and, ultimately, directed people towards extremist groups.

It seems that the role of right-wing extremist individuals and groups has become stronger in US domestic politics, and it is expected that they will lead to incidents of violence and terrorism in the country's political arena. It is in light of this fact that "Alejandro Mayorkas", the US Secretary of Homeland Security, said in his speech at the end of 2021 that: Domestic extremism is one of the greatest terrorism-related threats to the United States.
